Xiao is definitely a tough character to build around. Whether you’re unsure where to start or have a general idea of what you want to do, I think you’ll love our team suggestions. By the end of this guide, you’ll have the best Xiao team that maximizes his damage profile while allowing you to find your preferred play style.
Quick Navigation
Choosing The Best Team For Xiao
Xiao is a selfish carry, which means he wants to spend as much time on the field as possible. We want to prioritize keeping Xiao on the field as long as possible while doing as much damage as possible. We’ll prioritize teams that can either buff Xiao, deal damage while they’re off the field, or support him in other ways.
There isn’t a single elemental reaction that we must focus on; instead, we choose characters based solely on ability synergies and play styles.
Resonance and Reactions
The only reaction he has is Swirl, which isn’t the crazy multiplier you get from a Melt or Vaporize. It only deals 1.2x more base damage than Superconduct, the most weakest electro reaction in terms of upfront damage.
Because of Xiao’s insane elemental skill multiplier and the ability to get cooldown reduction on his skill, Anemo resonance is the best fit for him. His elemental skill carries a load of his damage when his burst is not up. Impetuous Winds may not be the most powerful resonance, but it is the most common.
The fact that when he’s in his ultimate form, his elemental skill doesn’t generate any particles. Any extra elemental energy you can generate with another Anemo character is extremely valuable.
You can use Swirl to apply Cryo to multiple opponents. This will allow you to take advantage of the increased crit rate and build your Xiao solely for crit damage.
Pyro and Geo resonance are excellent for him to provide additional damage. Both of these options are fairly self-explanatory. They’ll simply help Xiao in increasing damage output without requiring you to invest in characters.
Xiao, Sucrose, Zhongli, Albedo
Xiao teams are fairly specific if you want to get the most out of him. He needs a team that can produce a lot of energy if you want to always have his burst. For example, if you don’t want Xiao to run out of energy, you can run this team for him.

Sucrose will generate a lot of particles for Xiao and will even pull enemies together in some cases. | |
Zhongli will shred enemy resistances and provide a tenacity attack buff and shield to protect Xiao when he is low on health. | |
Albedo will deal a lot of extra Geo damage, and Geo Resonance will boost Xiao’s damage as well. | |
The team is extremely strong overall, with the main caveat being expensive to build. If you still have energy problems, you can give Zhongli the Favonious Lance, which should solve the problem.
Finally, if you want better healing and damage, you can swap Sucrose for Jean. It’s also worth noting that if you have constellation 4 Jean, you’ll be able to get Anemo shred, which is great for Xiao.
Xiao, Sucrose, Bennett, Raiden
Because Xiao is known for his energy issues and Raiden excels at being a universal energy generator, they have a good synergy. Despite Raiden’s inability to increase Xiao’s damage with her Skill, the two can be an effective pairing in certain situations.

Sucrose is here for Anemo resonance and as an energy generator for Xiao, especially if you’re running Sacrificial Fragment. You can also run thrilling tails on sucrose, which will increase Xiao’s damage. | |
Bennett is here to provide Xiao with insane attack boosts and a healing role. | |
Raiden’s Burst fills in for Xiao’s burst downtime while also helping Xiao regenerate energy. | |
When Xiao is paired with Raiden, there is less concern about having to funnel energy to Xiao after his Burst ends. The overall DPS of Xiao and Raiden is also dependent on Raiden’s own DPS, implying that the team may require more investment.
If you don’t have Raiden, Fischl is a great substitute. She works well because Oz deals a lot of off-field damage and charges your team’s energy a lot during that time.
Xiao, Albedo, Bennett, Venti
This team is all about grouping enemies and dealing as much AOE damage as possible. Xiao works well with Venti because his elemental skill is an energy battery generator. He performs even better with a weapon like the Sacrificial Bow.
Members | Details |
---|---|
Albedo excels in any Venti team due to the way his elemental skill works and acts as another type of energy generator. | |
Bennett as the healer in this team because you’re grouping enemies so tightly. You’ll get great instantaneous healing while in Xiao’s burst because you can basically sit in one spot while fighting. | |
Venti’s burst groups all enemies together, maximizing the effectiveness of your plunge attack. | |
The thing to keep in mind about this team is that Venti doesn’t always help Xiao with particles. If your Xiao is still missing a few particles, you should consider switching to Venti more frequently because he has a very low skill cooldown.
Xiao, Albedo, Fischl, Jean
With an offensive support core of Fischl and Albedo, this team takes off-field damage to greater levels. While having Albedo on the team does not help us with resonance, he is simply the best option for off-field damage.
Members | Details |
---|---|
Fischl and Albedo function as turrets, dealing additional damage to whoever Xiao is fighting. Fischl and Albedo are both excellent off-element generators. | |
Jean is your healer and provides Anemo energy and Resonance. | |
While Xiao is on the field, this team does not directly increase his damage. It does, however, allow him to stay on the field longer, allowing him to deal more damage simply by attacking more often.
This team will passively increase Xiao’s energy regen because he will be on the field for the majority of the game. We don’t have to worry about managing our switch-ins to collect energy from supports, making this team’s playstyle much more passive.
Fischl synergize well with Xiao thanks to her ascension 4 passive, which deals extra damage whenever Xiao swirls the electro debuff. When enemies group up during Xiao’s burst, this can add up to a lot of extra damage.
Xiao, Ganyu, Xingqiu, Qiqi
This team utilizes the freeze mechanic and Cryo resonance. You’re getting a lot of crit rate which allow you to focus on stacking as much crit damage for Xiao.
Members | Details |
---|---|
Her skill acts as a type of crowd control, gathering enemies and making it easier for Xiao to plunge the group. | |
Xingqui’s elemental burst works perfectly with Perma freeze, which you can also activate with Xiao’s plunge attack. As long as you can cancel your plunge animation with a basic attack, your Xingqui’s burst will provide good value. | |
QiQi’s healing is consistent, giving you more options when fighting. | |
Ganyu can also apply cryo in a much larger field, which is useful because Xiao can swirl that cryo onto nearby enemies, making it easier to sustain the spread.
We can play healing that requires you to stay in one place because we’re focused on freeze. There’s no need to move if your opponents will remain in the same spot for the duration of the fight.
Xiao, Jean, Sucrose, Zhongli
You might think that a triple Anemo is a bit much. However, the core of this team is Xiao and Jean.
Members | Details |
---|---|
Jean is capable of doing a lot of damage by herself. She can also assist in repositioning enemies so that Xiao’s dash can hit multiple targets more reliably. | |
Sucrose is here to provide crowd control while keeping our opponents on the ground. | |
Zhongli’s burst also packs a powerful punch of damage and comes at a low cost. | |
Because Xiao and Jean have high burst costs, we must compensate elsewhere if we don’t want to waste stats on energy recharge. Having a third particle generator, such as Sucrose, will do that job nicely.
Xiao, Bennett, Xiangling, Sucrose
This is one of our most affordable teams, based on Pyro Resonance and featuring all 4-star characters.
Members | Details |
---|---|
Bennett alone is worth three team spots due to the damage boost he provides. | |
Xiangling’s skill and burst deal off-field damage. | |
Sucrose serves as an energy generator, and she can also deal extra damage by passing elemental mastery to Xiao. | |
The Pyro resonance increases damage more than the Geo resonance. In fact, this team it is equally powerful and far more approachable than the Geo resonance team.
Xiao, Bennett, Thoma, Jean
This team may struggles against enemies that have an element check, such as Abyss Heralds and Lectors. However, it is still a very strong team in many situations.
Members | Details |
---|---|
Provides a strong heal and attack boost. | |
Provides a shield and completes Pyro Resonance for an ATK% buff. | |
Can be replaced by any Anemo character. | |
Thoma is a fantastic shielder that is very strong, making him a more affordable option for some players. If you have him at constellation 6, he can even grant Xiao a plunge attack bonus, which is a rare buff among characters.
Xiao, Fischl, Barbara, Sucrose
This team is unorthodox, but it works surprisingly well. The team revolves around Barbara, who serves as Xiao’s primary healer and buffer.
We add Fischl and Sucrose to round out the rest of the team with non-premium characters, resulting in a powerful electrocharged setup.
Members | Details |
---|---|
Provides nice off-field damage. | |
Provide a strong heals and can even buff Xiao’s attack with Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers. | |
Enhances electro-charged reactions between teammates by providing energy and elemental mastery. | |
Just make sure you play around with annoying freeze effects when you use Barbara’s elemental skill. She has great mobility with her burst and her elemental skill helps with this a lot.
Overall, the team has excellent survivability thanks to Barbara and underappreciated damage thanks to Sucrose’s Elemental Mastery sharing.
Final Thoughts
I’m very excited for you to try out some of these competitions. To be honest, Xiao made team building a lot more enjoyable and creative because you weren’t forced to experiment with elemental reactions as much.
Hopefully, you found this Xiao team guide helpful in deciding which characters to move forward and build.
could i use xiao, qiqi, keqing and sucrose together? qiqi lacks particle generation which sucrose can fill in on
Is Xiao, Fischl, Bennett, and Mona a good team?
Is Xiao, ganyu, mona and jean a good team?
Xiao requires more on-field in the game, which is similar to Ganyu, for they are both DPS monsters. I tried putting them on the same team, and it still rocks. However, I believe Ganyu cannot express her full potential when she occupies the role of a Sub-DPS. If you focus more on exploration, your team is worth considering (Considering that Mona walks on water, Ganyu can do Ice Bridge, 2 Anemos provide lower stamina consumption). For the Abyss in case, is somewhat good in my viewpoint, but I feel that there are more characters worth considering on the Sub-DPS role instead of using Ganyu. Hope this helps! <3
Could I use on any way Xiao and Yae together?
Is xiao (for melee damage and travel),venti(for bow and travel),zhongli(for shield and “freezing” enemies with burst) and Raiden
I have a sturdy team with Xiao, Zhongli, and Kokomi, but idk who to have in the fourth slot— should I try to get anemo res(and if so Venti or Kazuha?) or a cryo character for freeze reactions (Chongyun? Kaeya? Wait for Shenhe rerun??)
I would never use Albedo with Xiao. Can’t swirl. This website is weird…
Xioa, (Fischl/Xiangling,Raiden, whichever you like or have c6) Zhong Li and Benny.
It works wonders.
4 viridescent
Perhaps dont try swirling instead use 2 piece glad 2 piece viridescent, you’ll do better dmg
i dont wanna be rude or anything, but you sound a lil slow here. Albedo+Xiao (especially if you have Zhongli as well to resonate the constructs) creates the most off-field dps for Xiao that is 100% plunge friendly because Albedo’s skill still procs on plunge unlike maybe Xingqui who only procs on NA’s
I would like to ise Xiao with Bennett and Jean, but I don’t have Albedo, who should i use instead of him? Well if i can use someone else (I have all the 4 stars and I have: Childe, Kazuha, Yoimiya, Keqing, Kokomi and Jean as 5 stars)
I use Xiao with Kazuha i think they are good together
I would like to ise Xiao with Bennett and Jean, but I don’t have Albedo, who should i use instead of him? Well if i can use someone else
Fischl
Is Bennett, Diona, Sucrose, and Xiao a good team
Yes and no. Yes because Diona for shield and heals for Xiao is great, but unless she is being used for freeze, she wont do much outside of Heal+Shield. Sucrose, no matter who you have, is one of the best supports (iirc best 4* support) for Xiao, and Benny, especially at C1-C5 is perfect for Xiao (given you stay in the field to keep the boost for as long as possible) because of the extra damage and free healing if you dont have a seperate healer.
Is Qiqi, Xiao, Kazuha and idk xainling or xingiu a good team?
I use this too i dont have Jean so Qiqi is a good healer for him and Kazuha for Venti but the 4th is always changing
Just Want Too Know Is It Good Team Xiao Sucrose Hutao And Xingqui ?
Hu Tao and Xiao are both super greedy dps so pairing them both usually results in ur dps dying and ur stuck w only sucrose and xing
what abt xiao keqing venti and bennett is it a good team
Venti+Xiao has slight anti-synergy as Xiao cant spam plunge atks when enemies are lifted by Venti ult, so be careful with that team comp, but outside of that, if ur using Keqing as burst support for when Xiao is off burst for a bit, that extra dmg can be nice, but isnt reccomended because you could instead go a second pyro for pyro res and venti could swirl it for even more pyro dmg on top of Xiao’s plunges.
I want to do team 2 but I don’t have albedo, who would be a good replacement for him?
Maybe try Ningguang if you have her, she’s pretty similar too
I’m currently Running Xiao , Hutao , Jean, Zhongli
Dont run Xiao and Hu Tao together, they are both selfish dps’ who need to be on-field for their dmg, so you would either lose dmg due to swapping between the 2, messing up both rotations, and if you are running Hu Tao for support, you are doing it wrong. I could maybe see if you ran her for pyro res, but you dont have another pyro there so there is no point. I say pick another geo for geo res or Benny for his burst dmg boost.
What about xiao fischl diona and sucrose? I only have these characters from the suggestions and I thought that superconduct could be good because xiao does a lot of physical damage.
i actually run that team comp and already planning to go level 90 for those char since I really like it. Also, my sucrose is already c6
xiao’s burst overrides his polearm with anemo so physcial damage is not that optimal.
Run Xingqui instead of Fischl if you have him due to his synergy with Diona if you weave the NA’s into his plunge combo because they will constantly freeze which will keep them in place for Xiao and cause extra damage due to the “Shatter” effect
What if Teamed Xiao with Zhongli, C4 Albedo (+30% plunge attack buff inside Solar Isotoma), C4 Jean (-40% Anemo Res Inside Dandelion Breeze)? I think this is gonna be a whale line-up.
Constellations or not, that team overall is one of Xiao’s best due to Geo res and Anemo res, as well as Albedo’s off-field potential for Xiao because of his elevators synergy with Xiao’s plunge spam. Zhongli overall is just a good support for Xiao because it makes him immune to interruption which is great for Xiao’s overall fragility and his meteor will allow for Xiao to do big dmg because of the CC. Finally Jean is a great support for Xiao due to her anemo res and her potential as a battery and her healing (again due to Xiao’s Fragility) because his burst drains his health.
I been playing around with Xiao, albeto, qiqi, and xiangling, which I find is working really well. Granted I would use sucrose instead of xiangling, but I dont have her. But the idea behind that one is albeto adds some bonus damage with his E, and I have him using The exile, plus with qiqi and xiangling, I get a solid amount of sheilding too. Qiqi is there for healing, and xiangling is there for the damage buff. Plus whenever she does melt, or swirl she will give xiao burst charge. This team comp is essentailly revolves around xiao always having a burst up, and qiqi and albeto with sheilding and healing neglates the health cost of his burst. Tho your article gave me an idea to use a double ice build which imma play around with. Tho i feel like chongyun instead of ganyu might work well cause it will increase xiao’s attack rate and give him bonus damage.
I personally like sucrose more than venti but I only tried venti in the trial. I have c1 sucrose and its crazy how fast she can recharge for xiao.
What do you think about replacing venti with sucrose in the very first set up? I don’t have venti but I have sucrose, do you think it would make a huge difference?
All I know sucrose is better than Venti for energy recharge, Venti’s aoe can not touch a group of small/ lighyweight enemies. Venti is better than Sucrose only for Aoe damage.
Yes! sucrose is a good alternative especially on higher constellation.
Would this go the other way in terms of replacing Sucrose with Venti in team 5?
I personally dont suggest putting Venti on a team with Xiao due to anti-synergy with their bursts because Xiao cant hit the enemies Venti picks up with burst.
i have been waiting for months and saving a lot of primogems until his release and i got him on my 3rd pull, his very fun to play and a game changer for me.
