Talents
There are a few things that set Xiao apart from everyone else in the game and his mobility is the first thing that comes to mind. His movement skills allow him to dart around the battlefield and when he activates his elemental burst, his abilities are enhanced even further.
![]() | |
---|---|
Normal | Perform up to 6 consecutive spear strikes. |
Charge | Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to perform an upward thrust. |
Plunge | Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground from below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact. Xiao does not take DMG from performing Plunging Attacks. |

Attributes | Level 1 | Level 10 |
---|---|---|
1-Hit DMG | 27.54% + 27.54% | 49.14% + 49.14% |
2-Hit DMG | 56.94% | 101.58% |
3-Hit DMG | 68.55% | 122.3% |
4-Hit DMG | 37.66% + 37.66% | 67.2% + 67.2% |
5-Hit DMG | 71.54% | 127.64% |
6-Hit DMG | 95.83% | 170.97% |
Charged Attack DMG | 121.09% | 216.03% |
Charged Attack Stamina Cost | 25 | 25 |
Plunge DMG | 81.83% | 161.76% |
Low/High Plunge DMG | 163.63% / 204.39% | 323.46% / 404.02% |
His normal attack string is a fancy-looking set of attacks and the full combo is done with 6 button presses and results in 8 hits. His most damaging combo without considering his other abilities will be 2 normal attacks followed by a charge attack. His charged attack can easily handle groups of enemies since the swings cover a significant area around him. In fact, if he has a shield on him, he can pretty much spam his charged attack without any interruption and the damage multiplier on it is actually very strong.
You can get even more damage by canceling the charge attack into a dash although that will require a lot of stamina. But with the proper team to feed him energy, you will almost never use his normal attacks besides finishing a final enemy after his burst is over.

Xiao lunges forward, dealing Anemo DMG to opponents in his path. It can be used in mid-air and starts with 2 charges |

Attributes | Level 1 | Level 15 |
---|---|---|
Skill DMG | 252.8% | 600.4% |
Cooldown | 10 Seconds | 10 Seconds |
Use Xiao’s elemental skill to lunge forward dealing Anemo damage to enemies in his path. You can easily use it for traversal and closing gaps between your jumps. But once you have some enemies around then there is no aiming involved and the dash he performs will choose one of the targets and automatically go through it and anyone else who gets in his way.
His 2nd passive talent provides additional damage for your next dash attack as long as you can do it within 7 seconds after getting the buff. Because you can stack it up to 3 times and if you can do this correctly, one of your elemental skill dashes will deal 45% increased damage.
Just keep in mind since he has two charges for his elemental skill so using one after another will give the 2nd dash with 15% damage but the timer will run out on the 3rd dash and you will reset the stack. It is best to wait at least 3 seconds before using up the 2nd charge in order to maintain the damage buff. Of course, optimal play aside, zipping twice in a row is a fantastic feeling and one that’s hard to shake off, especially with the amount of damage you can quickly produce without counting on the passive itself.

Xiao dons the Yaksha Mask that set gods and demons trembling millennia ago. In this state, Xiao will continuously lose HP and the effects of this skill end when Xiao leaves the field Yaksha’s Mask Greatly increases Xiao’s jumping ability, Increases his attack AoE and attack DMG, Converts attack DMG into Anemo DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion. |

Attributes | Level 1 | Level 15 |
---|---|---|
Normal, Charged, & Plunging Attack DMG Bonus | 58.45% | 117.95% |
Life Drain | 3% Current HP Per Second | 2% Current HP Per Second |
Duration | 15 Seconds | 15 Seconds |
Cooldown | 18 Seconds | 18 Seconds |
Energy Cost | 70 | 70 |
When it comes to his elemental burst, you can jump higher, attacks are wider and the damage itself gets infused with Anemo element. Obviously, the most fun way to take advantage of this would be his plunge attacks. Although even without fully relying on them, the damage output just from normal attacks on a single target is significant enough. But when you’re up against a group of enemies then there’s nothing better than to plunge those pests away.
It’s also interesting that his damage increases every few seconds while under the effect of his burst and it reaches a climax on the very last seconds of his demon form where he attains up to a 25% extra DMG bonus. So keep this in mind if you ever get the idea to switch him out before the burst is over.
On the flip side, he also keeps losing health but thankfully it scales with the current HP he has so there is no flat damage and during most of the gameplay it never felt like something that you need to worry about.
So in essence, Xiao’s design is all about mobility and using it to dominate groups of enemies. His attacks are fast, hard-hitting, his stylish delivery of damage feels very rewarding, and a few key mechanics like cycling your dashes to maintain the active damage buff and staying through the whole duration of his burst are the small things to keep in mind before every single monster perishes in his way.

I’ve been waiting for his banner to rerun, and I won’t miss him again.
I finally finished farming my xiao ascension and talent materials today, and I must say that I enjoy playing him!
He’s a lot of fun to play and you’ll never regret pulling him.
Can you recommend any good artifact sets for my Xiao to farm?
On my Xiao, I use a combination set of Viridescent and Gladiator, but a 4-set Vermillion Hereafter should work nicely.
I was so lucky today that I was able to obtain xiao and his signature spear in only 20 wishes.
Do you think deathmatch is better for Xiao than blackcliff?
You already have a 24 percent crit rate with xiao ascension stats. Having around 40% more from deathmatch limits your crit rate substats from artifacts since crit rate is excellent at around 70% or 80%.
Is it better to get Xiao or Kazuha? I had already saved all of Kazuha’s materials, but Xiao is so tempting to get,
I just woke up and pulled xiao, now I want that primodial jade winged-spear.
Me too. Got him “accidently”. Im glad I never pulled on Yelans banner. I guess ill just skip kazuhas banner because now I have Xiao. Not sure If ill ever use him because the fucking flower.
After 25 pulls, I got him! Other than the traveler, this is my first 5 star, and I still have 21k primos to pull for my Itto.
I’m confused between xiao and kazuha; I genuinely want kazuha, but xiao’s storyline and character appeal to me. Itto, ayaka, and ayato are already in my hand.
I don’t care if he’s good or bad; all I want is for him to join my team.
I believe that xiao is suitable for the vast majority of players. In genshin, you spend 80% of your time exploring and gathering resources. With a character like xiao, it’s even more enjoyable.
I’ll pull for xiao 100% of the time, if I lose 50/50, I’ll get kazuha, because at the end of the day, this is just a game to have fun with.
True.
In Abyss 12-2, I only used Xiao, Ganyu, Diona, and Venti for the lols. It was actually quite effective. Ganyu did a lot of work as an off-field dps, and I only used her as an on-field main in 12-2-3.
Xiao is good against hoards, but not so much against bosses. His burst uptime is less efficient. Itto, Hu Tao, and Ayaka are units that excel at dealing with bosses.
He moves so quickly that I can easily see him avoiding my ten pulls.
LMAOOO. I got him after taking break from Genshin after losing 50/50 to mona. Didnt expect to get him…
I have to say, he’s well worth it. Everyone is saving for his rerun, so you’ve got this! I believe in you, and I am confident that you will all get Xiao.
xiao is the character I’ve wanted since his release, but I’ve lost 50/50 twice in each of his banners. Now I’m guaranteed and will reach pity, so it’s amazing I can get him after so long.
If I hadn’t lost to Diluc on the Zhongli banner, I would have wished for Xiao.
He’s already evaded me twice on each of his banners. I’m going to get him this time.
Xiao holds a special place in my heart. I started playing Genshin after hearing that one of my favorite male Japanese voice actors, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, was voicing him.
I already have Xiao’s spear and all i need is him. Please come home, you spear is waiting for you!
