Tartaglia Skills
There hasn’t been any one other character in the game as unique as Tartaglia who is. Not only a relentless damage dealer but also an excellent teammate and one of the coolest things about Tartaglia is his playstyle and even though his weapon of choice is a bow, his elemental skill completely changes the way you play him.
Perform up to 6 consecutive shots with a bow.
Charge Attack
Perform a more precise Aimed Shot with increased DMG. While aiming, the power of Hydro will accumulate on the arrowhead. An arrow fully charged with the torrent will deal Hydro DMG and apply the Riptide status.
Riptide: Opponents affected by Riptide will suffer from AoE Hydro DMG effects when attacked by Tartaglia in various ways. DMG dealt in this way is considered Normal Attack dmg.
– Riptide Flash: A fully-charged Aimed Shot that hits an opponent affected by Riptide deals consecutive bouts of AoE DMG. Can occur once every 0.7s.
– Riptide Burst: Defeating an opponent affected by Riptide creates a Hydro burst that inflicts the Riptide status on nearby opponents hit.
Plunge Attack
Fires off a shower of arrows in mid-air before falling and striking the ground, dealing AoE DMG upon impact. When Tartaglia is in Foul Legacy: Raging Tide’s Melee Stance, he cannot perform a plunging attack.
His Normal Attack can combo up to 6 consecutive shots. Charging the attack executes a more precise shot that deals increased damage. While aiming, Hydro energy accumulates on the arrowhead. A fully charged arrow will deal Hydro damage to enemies on impact and also apply the Riptide status to them. When an enemy is affected by Riptide, further hits from Tartaglia’s fully charged arrows deal multiple bouts of area of effect Hydro damage. Unlocking the Talent “Never Ending” Extends the duration of Riptide.
Normal Attack: Perform up to 6 consecutive Hydro strikes.
Charged Attack: Consumes a certain amount of Stamina to unleash a cross slash, dealing Hydro DMG.
Riptide Slash: Hitting an opponent affected by Riptide with a melee attack unleashes a Riptide Slash that deals AoE Hydro DMG. The DMG dealt in this way is considered Elemental Skill DMG, and can only occur once every 1.5s.
After 30 seconds, or when the ability is unleashed again, this skill will end. Tartaglia will return to his Ranged Stance and this ability will enter CD. The longer Tartaglia stays in his Melee Stance, the longer the CD. If the return to a ranged stance occurs automatically after 30 seconds, the CD is even longer.
Unlike your regular bow attacks, these dual blades are made of water and deal hydro damage instead. The attacks you deal in melee are very similar to the ones you would do with a sword. You can perform up to 6 basic attacks in a row or you could also hold the attack button for a charged attack.
The last thing that’s very important to understand about Tartaglia would be his elemental skill’s cooldown. There are some restrictions when it comes to using his dual blade mode and the first one being the duration itself.
Once you activate it, you only get roughly 30 seconds before the skill will end and you will return back to your regular bow. Now the tricky part comes next – when you’re using your dual blades, you can press the elemental skill button and immediately return back to your bow.
The reason why you want to preemptively end the skill yourself is that if you let the dual blade mode run its course it will go on a very long cooldown. But if you deactivate this mode manually you get rewarded with a shorter cooldown depending on how long you were using the blades. So as you can imagine, it will take some time and intuition to develop a good sense of when to start and end your hydro blades.
Ranged Stance – Flash of Havoc: Swiftly fires a Hydro-imbued magic arrow, dealing AoE Hydro DMG and applying the Riptide status. Returns a portion of its Energy Cost after use.
Melee Stance – Light of Obliteration: Performs a slash with a large AoE, dealing massive Hydro DMG to all surrounding opponents, which triggers Riptide Blast.
Riptide Blast: When the obliterating waters hit an opponent affected by Riptide, it clears their Riptide status and triggers a Hydro Explosion that deals AoE Hydro DMG. DMG dealt in this way is considered Elemental Burst DMG.
Tartaglia has two different elemental bursts which depend if he has a bow or dual blades equipped. If he uses the burst with his bow, he shoots out a massive arrow that deals large damage in an area and also puts a mark on every enemy affected. But when he has his blades out, the burst deals even more damage and if the enemies were already were marked, the status effects will disappear and deal another powerful hydro blast. This isn’t the only interaction with this special status mark. In total, there are 4 ways you can use these marks.
If you shoot your charged shot at an enemy who is already marked, they will take continuous AoE hydro damage and the mark will still remain on the enemy. But if you defeat someone who already has the mark, then they will explode and deal hydro damage to surrounding enemies. And finally, anyone who is marked and gets attacked by your hydro blade attacks will also take additional AoE hydro damage.
Basically, Tartaglia excels as a damage dealer if he first marks his enemies with either his charged shot or by using his elemental burst but this only works if he is using his bow. So as you can imagine, the ranged attacks from his bow will be used first to engage the enemy and mark as many of them as possible before switching over to his dual blade mode and finishing everyone off insight.
