Whether you are just beginning or already have hours upon hours invested there are still elements of Genshin Impact that leave you wondering just what is the best way to do this.
Today I’m sharing the ultimate guide to one of the most important resources in the game – Resin.
Resin Overview
I know some of you might already be saying… I know what resin does. And you know what? I wouldn’t doubt you for a second but I challenge you to tell me what is the best thing to spend it on? whether you should be prepping long term or short term with it? or even what days of the week yields the best results?
There are actually a ton of factors that can set you up for either failure or success with this stuff and because you have a finite amount to spend each day for free every bit of it counts. These moon crescents are unbelievably important for progression so we’re going to break down exactly where, when, and what you should be spending these on so you don’t hit the progression wall as hard as you might.
Resin Basics
We have to start with the basics of resin because I like to make sure these guides help every single one of you to succeed whether you were brand new to the game or already pushing into Adventure Rank 40+.
Original resin is a currency used to obtain nearly every single item you need beginning at mid-game all the way into the end game grind. Every 8 minutes your account will generate one original resin and you have a total storage cap of 120 before that every eight-minute generation goes to waste.
Even if you are a beginner the moment you have access to any of the information we are about to go over, you need to make sure you never cap out at 120 out of 120.
While some things you could spend resin on will never be worth it late game, when you are just starting out and you hit Adventurer Rank 8, taking this time to use this untapped resource will let you start stocking up on valuable resources and will make your grind into adventurer rank 30 and above that much smoother.
Now there are ways to get more resin each day. One being spending primo gems that incrementally gets more expensive each time you do. Let’s be real if you are a free to play player at all, you want to save those gems to roll for new characters. Even me I’ve put a little bit of money in early on and I even won’t spend my Primogems to restock this.
The other way is by using the Fragile Resin rare consumable. These are few and far between and I’ll just tell you right now, don’t use these till you are well into Adventurer Rank 30 and above because the rewards before that aren’t worth wasting this precious additional resource.
There may be other methods coming in the future to alleviate a bit of this stress but at the time of making this guide, they aren’t in the game. That’s just the basics of what resin is and how you get more. What we are going to do now is go into every source where resins is required and break them down from worst to best. Now keep in mind even the worst ones are okay to do if it’s something you absolutely need at a crucial moment or are just starting out. But as you progress further, some of these are just frankly a waste.
Ley Line Blossoms
Ley Line Blossoms are your first run-in with the resin system. Beginning as soon as you reach adventurer rank 8.
There are two types of Ley Line Blossoms you’ll encounter. Blue colored ones called blossoms of revelation which will provide character level up materials and gold-colored ones called blossoms of wealth which will provide you with bundles of mora.
Being that these are the first and only things you have access to in the early stages prior to Adventurer Rank 16. You should only be spending resin on the blossoms of revelation depending on how fast you are progressing to Adventurer Rank 16.
If you are taking your time and foreseeing this taking a couple of days, use all your resin each day to stock up on the character experience books the blossoms of revelation provide.
If you are blowing past rank 8 and well into Adventurer Rank 16 within a day, I’d only recommend you do one or two just to keep your resin from being full as you’re progressing.
The truth is Experience Books and Mora are pretty common just by adventuring and leveling up so don’t feel bad about getting through this stage quickly.
Completing these blossom events and accessing the loot will unfortunately run you 20 resin per loot collection. way too high in my honest opinion for doing these early on.
Once you hit Adventurer Rank 35 and up, the revelations begin to award purple Hero Writ books which are way more valuable for the cost of resin but still not the best thing you could be doing.
Domain Overview
Domains are the next topic of discussion and they’re a pretty broad category. They are essentially miniature trials with time events and a certain number of enemies you need to dispatch without being killed. There are however different types of domains with different types of rewards that unlock at very different levels of progression. Understanding these is key.
Domains Of Blessing
Domains of blessing are easily described as an early game to mid game resin trap but become much more desirable to farm in the end game. That’s the main reason i have these solo on this list initially.
Domains of Blessing reward artifacts as their main loot drop. The items in the game that contain random stat rolls and provide the traditional set bonuses to your team that most RPGs have.
These unlock beginning at level 22 all the way up to level 35 currently and at the very beginning their loot pool is absolutely awful and offers rewards less desirable than that of an open-world chest making them a complete waste of your resin. This is because the rewards scale with your Adventurer’s Rank. Unlocking new tiers as you get higher and higher and begin to award 5-star artifacts towards the end.
The domains of blessing are as follows:
- Midsummer Courtyard in Mondstadt unlocked at level 22.
- Domain of Guyun in Liyue unlocked at level 22.
- Valley of Remembrance in Mondstadt unlocked at level 25.
- Hidden Palace of Zhou Formula in Liyue unlocked at level 30.
- Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern in Liyue unlocked at level 35.
I wouldn’t touch these until you are pushing well into Adventurer Rank 35 and above and just the fact that some of these don’t even open till then should sound an alarm in your head that that is the correct move.
These are here toward the bottom because in terms of progression doing these early on is a complete waste of 20 resin per domain. And 5-star items even begin dropping in the world in your 40s. 9 times out of 10 a world chest will give you better rewards for free. While they look appealing when they first open up, just ignore them trust me.
Just take a look at my inventory of artifacts when I was at Adventurer Rank 30, having never run a single artifact domain. I had some 5 stars a ton of 4 stars and more leveling fodder than I knew what to do with.
Even if you look at your adventurer’s handbook and your rewards from the adventurers guild, every time you rank it up it gives you the potential for a 4-star artifact, materials, and much more. It’s also important to note that in your adventurous handbook it says to clear x amount of domains for some of your quests. This just means beat them, you don’t have to actually claim the reward so don’t waste your resin.
Domains of Forgery
Domains of Forgery is where things begin to pick up in terms of value. These are key to leveling and ascending your weapons to higher tiers. These open up at Adventurer Rank 16 and currently there are only two of them. Cecilia Garden in Mondstadt just north of Wolvendom and the Hidden Palace of Lianshan Formula in Liyue off to the northeast world border in Mingyu village.
I would highly recommend that as soon as you reach Adventurer Rank 16, immediately start spending your resin here especially if you are taking your time leveling over the course of a few days.
Prior to level 20, there really isn’t anything else that will compete with these rewards since these will be how you obtain your core materials for upgrading your weapons.
Because of the fact that you can take lower-tier items and craft them at the alchemy station into higher versions, stocking up on them sooner will make leveling your items later much easier and will allow you to shift your resin focus onto other priorities.
Just make sure to inspect your weapons to know which resource path your weapons will follow so you don’t stock up on something that you’re never going to use. A very important thing to note is that domains of forgery rotate the rewards by the day and adhere to this strict schedule.
Monday and Thursday have one set of focus rewards. Tuesday and Friday have another focus set. Wednesday and Saturday have the final focus set and Sunday is the special day that has the potential to drop every single type of weapon resource for that domain. Which makes Sunday’s excellent farming days to get the most out of your resin. These will run you 20 resin per loot collection.
Domains of Mastery
Domains of mastery are a bit higher up on the list of priorities due to their rewards being the core materials to level up your talents. Your talents however can only be upgraded a certain number of times each time your character ascends.
Upgrading talents are able to provide an overall increase to your basic attacks, your abilities, and even your ultimate so while they are super important and just flat stat increases across the board I’d really only farm these specifically as you need them.
The earliest these unlock are at Adventurer Rank 27 and can be found at theĀ Forsaken Rift in Mondstadt and the Taishan Mansion in Liyue.
Like the domains of forgery, certain books drop on the same breakdown schedule with Sundays being the free for all once again. Each run will cost you 20 resin per loot collection.
Elite Bosses
Now elite bosses are up next and in my opinion, are some of the most fun things to grind in the game and are pretty rewarding. These will provide you with the key materials for your character to ascend.
You can honestly attempt to take these on starting at around Adventurer Rank 20 and up. These have the potential to drop 2 core components toward your ascension consisting of a main elemental gem type and a specific core component only found from each boss.
Being that each elite boss follows a very clear elemental type, they have rewards that are appropriate.
- The Electro Hypostasis in Cape Oath drops gems and core upgrades for Electro based characters.
- The Anemo Hypostasis in the Stormbearer Mountains drops gems and core upgrades for Anemo based characters.
- The Geo Hypostasis in the Guyun Stone Forest drops gems and core upgrades for Geo based characters.
- The Cryo Regisvine in Starfall Valley drops gems and core upgrades for Cryo based characters.
- The Pyro Regisvine at Cuijue Slope drops gems and core upgrades for Pyro based characters.
- The Oceanid at Bishui Plain drops gems and core upgrades for Hydro based characters.
If you have downtime and nothing to really spend your resin on, this is always a solid resin sink but at 40 resin per loot collection. I typically farm these as I see myself coming up on ascending my characters and is probably the best route to take.
Weekly Major Bosses
Currently, there are only two world bosses. Andrius the dominator of wolves and Dvalin the Stormterror. These are unique instances that can only be claimed once per week and respawn every Monday. At 60 resin a pop, these bosses provide some of the best rewards in the game.
You can begin challenging them starting at around Adventurer Rank 25 and here’s my advice.
Dvalin’s rewards to start are decent as they can include weapon prototypes allowing you to potentially kit out your characters in 4-star weapons early on but he doesn’t get tier 5 artifacts in his loot pool until Adventurer Rank 30.
Andrius on the other hand always has one consistent high tier loot pool full of things ranging from tier 5 character ascension gems to tier 5 artifacts and more and of course mixed in with a bunch of tier 4 items.
I managed to get my first tier 5 item by chance in my second time fighting him when I hit Adventurer Rank 30 so it is 100% worth the use of 60 resin.
Just know these are probably the most difficult challenges for their tier and will test how well put together and geared your team is.
Final Thoughts
Resin is the most important resource in the game so it is absolutely critical even as a casual player that you use it as efficiently as possible and hopefully i helped with that. If you have any tips I missed and you’d like to share go ahead and leave it in the comment section below.
